Firstly, if you are sick, please stay home. We understand you're really excited to come see us and get that new piercing or must-have jewelry, but we value our health as well as the health of our families, and would rather not be in close contact with anyone sick for any extended amount of time. Secondly, being unwell can dramatically affect the healing process, and you should always be at your best when getting a fresh piercing. Not to mention, your tolerance to pain and stress is lower when you're sick, which means that you won't be your usual rockstar self when you come to see us, and nobody wants that.
Please note we reserve the right to reschedule your appointment if you arrive visibly unwell. However, we will make every effort to give you priority in our schedule in order to get you in as soon as possible once you are feeling better.

Tipping is a really nice gesture and is always welcome and appreciated, but certainly not required, so use your discretion and do what makes you comfortable. If you had a great experience and you are happy with a job well done, it never hurts to show it.

Typically, no. Because we choose to operate under the strict guidelines of the Association of Professional Piercers (APP), we use specific materials, designs, and surface finish specifications to provide you the very best options for your new piercing. Furthermore we need to size the jewelry to fit your specific anatomy. However, if the jewelry you have meets our requirements, we are typically happy to use what you already have.
-
We only use internally threaded or threadless, high polish, APP verified implant certified titanium (Ti6Al4V ELI) that is ASTM F-136 compliant, ASTM F1295, ISO 5832-3 compliant, or commercially pure titanium that is ASTM F-67 compliant. See our Initial Jewerly Guidelines here.

No, please do not do this. Firstly, numbing cream only affects the first few layers of skin and will not penetrate deep enough to prevent you from feeling the process. Secondly, it can also affect the structure of the tissue and cause unnecessary swelling, which can make it more difficult for us to correctly pierce you. If you come in with numbing cream on, we will unfortunately have to re-schedule your piercing appointment.

Short answer, yes. Long answer, no. The vast majority of people will have issues healing their piercing with a ring. For this reason, the only piercings we will start with rings are daith and septum piercings. Piercings that are done with rings, generally have to be much thicker and larger in diameter. What this does is it helps keep pressure off of the piercing. When pierced with rings that are too thin and too small, the curvature of the ring will put pressure on the entrance and exit marks of the piercing. This pressure will form irritation and create bumps. It’s also the reason that you commonly see such large rings in daith piercings. Once your piercing is FULLY healed, you can switch to something thinner and more fitted if you prefer.

We will not do any piercings that are not safe (for example, snake eyes) or that won't fit your anatomy or heal properly. If we do chose to refuse a particular service, we will always explain our reasoning as to why that particular piercing is not viable for you.
-
Yes. The cost is $50 per session, if/when you require assistance from the piercer, plus the cost of jewelry (starts at $30), if needed.
-
No. While this has been a recommended aftercare method in the past, we now know it to be an outdated and unsafe method that doesn't allow for optional healing. The salt to water ratio must be very specific in order for this to work and there is no way for it to be sterile at home. A Sterile Isotonic Saline Solution (USP Grade Water, USP Sodium Chloride 9mg/mL only) like Neilmed, Steri-Wash, etc, is your ideal healing companion, and is readily available for purchase at our shop or any healthcare retailer (i.e. Walgreens, etc).
-
We suggest waiting a minimum of 8 weeks before submerging a piercing in water for extended periods of time. While salt water like saline solution may be good for your piercings, the bacteria in the ocean, as well as pools or hot tubs, is not.
-
No. Again, this is an outdated method of aftercare. There is a common misconception that you need to twist your jewelry to prevent the skin from growing around it, but by twisting it, you are damaging the healing fistula (the piercing channel that forms), which will cause irritation, introduce bacteria to the piercing site, and prolong healing.
-
This will slow down the healing process, cause irritation and in some cases, cause your piercing to heal on an angle. Travel or ear piercing pillows, available on Amazon, Etsy, etc, are a great way to stay comfortable while your piercing heals.
-
Downsizing refers to switching jewelry in a piercing to a shorter post once initial swelling has subsided, and is a crucial step to set your piercing up for success. For your initial piercing, we use a longer post (labret, curved barbel, straight barbel, etc.) to accommodate for the swelling that’s usually present within the first four weeks post-piercing. If you were pierced at Legacy Tattoo & Piercing, we will send you a reminder email 4 weeks after your piercing to book a Downsize Appointment so that we can assess your healing piercing and replace your longer post with a more fitted one.
If your post isn’t downsized within the 4-8 week mark, it may lead to irritation caused by the post having too much length to move through the piercing channel during healing. In addition, pressure on the piercing from sleeping can cause the angle of your piercing to permanently shift if the post is still long.
